SARS addresses data breach allegations and assures public of system security.

The South African Revenue Service (South African Revenue Service) has dismissed social media claims alleging that its systems have been compromised, saying there is no evidence of any data breach and urging the public to ignore unverified reports circulating online.

Responding to growing speculation on digital platforms, SARS said it had “conducted a thorough investigation” into the claims and found them to be “false and unsubstantiated.”

“At this stage, there is no evidence that SARS’s systems have been compromised,” the revenue authority said, adding that it continuously monitors its digital environment for suspicious activity.

SARS emphasised that it treats the protection of taxpayer data and the security of its platforms as a top priority.
