MANILA, Philippines – The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) Foundation Inc. has joined those expressing “not only concern, but profound disappointment” over the political decisions of Sen. Loren Legarda, a TOWNS awardee.
“We…urge Senator Legarda to reflect deeply on whether her recent actions honor the values for which she was recognized as a TOWNS awardee,” TOWNS said in a statement.
“[O]ur distinction is not based solely on achievement, but on courage of conscience—the willingness to defend what is right even when it is difficult or unpopular. We are called to place country above alliances, principle above expediency, and service above self-interest,” it added.
The group noted that Legarda has long been regarded as a woman of intellect, independence, courage, and public service, “qualities for which she was honored by TOWNS.”
