May 25, 2026 — 3:21pmThe runner who died during the HBF Run for a Reason event in the Perth CBD on Sunday has been identified as father-of-two Luke Prehn.Prehn, 41, was running in the half-marathon event when he collapsed around the 10 kilometre-mark and could not be revived, despite immediate attempts by fellow runners and volunteers who rushed to help.Luke Prehn and his family.GoFundMeThe father-of-two was an accountant at Ernst & Young. A fundraising page set up to ease the financial burden on his family has already raised more than $12,000.“We are heartbroken to share the sudden passing of Luke Prehn, a devoted husband, loving father, brother, son, and friend, who tragically passed away at just 41 years old while participating in the HBF Half Marathon,” the page read.“Luke leaves behind his beautiful wife, Charmaine, and their two young children, Oliver and Cameron, aged just 4 and 2, who were his entire world.“Anyone who knew him knew the kind of man he was — endlessly patient, gentle, hardworking, and kind.“He was the person who showed up for others without hesitation, loved his family deeply, and made everyone around him feel supported and cared for.”Phren was one of more than 40,000 people who took part in the community event, which helped raised $1.7 million for charities.His wife, Charmaine Prehn, released a statement on Monday saying Luke was one of the “world’s greatest men”.“We are absolutely heartbroken at the loss of a loving and devoted father, husband and son,” she said.“Anyone who knew him understood the kind of man he was – endlessly patient, hardworking and kind. He gave of himself without hesitation and loved his family deeply.“His passing has left a profound void in our lives, and he will be deeply missed. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult and tragic time.”In a statement, HBF Run for a Reason said Prehn died following a medical emergency.“We are grateful to members of the public and St John WA who provided immediate assistance, and also to hospital staff,” the statement read.“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Luke’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”From our partners
