Winston Peters suspects the prime minister will regret his past comments about not being able to trust Stuart Nash, as the New Zealand First leader officially welcomes the former Labour minister into his party.

Nash announced on Monday he would be contesting the Napier electorate seat for New Zealand First at the November election.

He held the same seat for Labour for three terms before he was sacked from Cabinet in 2023 by then-prime minister and current Labour leader Chris Hipkins.

Peters told RNZ on Monday afternoon that Nash has a "serious amount of skill and experience" and would "obviously" be a minister if New Zealand First was in government after the election.
