An overheated, pressurized tank containing a toxic chemical at the aerospace systems facility has raised concern in the city of Garden Grove, as emergency responders assess the situation while the tank’s temperature continues to rise by about 1 degree Fahrenheit an hour, according to the Los Angeles Times.Despite the rising temperatures and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) declaring a state of emergency over the situation, things appeared to slightly turn a corner on Sunday afternoon, as a firefighter found a potential crack in the pressurized tank. Interim Orange County Fire Chief TJ McGovern said on Sunday that his authority’s firefighters found, in a late-night Saturday mission, the crack that “could potentially be relieving some of the pressure” in the tank.

Zeldin spoke to the state of the tank on CNN’s State of the Union Sunday morning, telling the network that the EPA believes “the tank will fail, but there are different scenarios as to what that means.”

“The most catastrophic scenario being an explosion that results in other tanks to explode. That’s the reason why you see such a big evacuation that’s been done in the surrounding areas. I’m being told this morning that the most likely scenario is one of a low-volume release, where the local authorities are going to be able to monitor, neutralize, and contain the threat,” Zeldin said.
