The United States “stands in solidarity with the families and friends of the victims of the terrorist organization November 17 – whether they be American, Greek, or of any other nationality,” a State Department spokesperson has told Kathimerini, commenting on the recent decision by the Piraeus Appeals Council to approve a request for release from jail by Alexandros Giotopoulos, the mastermind of the defunct guerrilla group.
The spokesperson described Giotopoulos as “a convicted murderer and terrorist who committed heinous crimes,” and also expressed Washington’s “profound gratitude to generations of Greek law enforcement officials who have worked tirelessly to hold terrorists accountable.”
