Dakshina Kannada District Planning Committee has approved the ₹2,561.20 crore draft annual development plan for the district for 2026-27.The plan was approved on Friday at the meeting of the committee presided over by Dinesh Gundu Rao, Minister-in-charge of the district.The total plan amount includes the grants of ₹244.37 crore Scheduled Caste Sub Plan and ₹120.21 crore Scheduled Tribe Sub Plan, an official release said.The Education Department has placed the demand for ₹91.87 crore for various works, including the construction of toilets and compound walls and repair of classrooms and school buildings. The Social Welfare Department has demanded ₹49.39 crore.The demand from the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) stands at ₹51.50 crore; from the Department of Backwards Classes Welfare is at ₹ 139.57 crore; and from Minorities Welfare Department it is at ₹ 42.50 crore.A grant of ₹284 crore has been approved for the Women and Child Development Department for 247 projects such as the construction of anganwadi buildings, toilets, compound walls, etc.Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rao said all development projects should be completed within the stipulated time frame. He said the grants should be used to ensure that the benefits of development projects reach the people.Deputy Commissioner H.V.
