Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which is 3.4 notches above the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The minimum temperature stood at 28.4 degrees Celsius in the morning, which is two notches above the seasonal average. Heat spikes across Delhi-NCR stations Temperature readings across several weather stations in the Delhi-NCR region remained significantly above normal levels. The Ridge and Ayanagar stations recorded the highest maximum temperature at 44.6 degrees Celsius each. Lodhi Road recorded 43.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Palam at 43.7 degrees Celsius and Safdarjung at 43.6 degrees Celsius. Temperatures are expected to hover around 44 degrees Celsius for the maximum and 30 degrees Celsius for the minimum on Monday.Dry conditions and poor air quality persist Relative humidity fluctuated between 37 per cent and 18 per cent throughout the day, contributing to dry and uncomfortable conditions. Air quality in the capital was recorded in the ‘poor’ category at 4 pm, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 205, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. As per CPCB standards, AQI levels between 0 and 50 are classified as ‘good’, 51 to 100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 as ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 as ‘poor’, 301 to 400 as ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 as ‘severe’.Precautions during high temperature conditions High temperatures increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially for people exposed to sun for long periods or doing heavy outdoor work.
