The military said the operation was carried out on Saturday following intelligence gathered through surveillance systems deployed by troops stationed in the area.

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have rescued 92 civilians kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

The military said the operation was carried out on Saturday following intelligence gathered through surveillance systems deployed by troops stationed in the area.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion at Dutse Kura detected terrorists forcefully herding civilians and vehicles off the highway into nearby bushes at about 11:22am.

The statement said the unit immediately activated its Quick Reaction Force while reinforcement troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade Garrison were mobilised to support the rescue mission.
