Kolkata: Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee has sought two weeks’ time from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to respond to the notice regarding 17 of his properties, a top KMC official told ET. Meanwhile, six illegal buildings are being demolished by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), using bulldozers on Sunday in Tiljala, Beliaghata and Kasba, including those linked with Sona Pappu, KMC Municipal Commissioner Smita Pandey confirmed.Pandey told ET that Banerjee has sought two weeks’ time. The KMC had served notices to 17 properties allegedly linked to Abhishek Banerjee over alleged deviations from sanctioned building plans. The move followed an internal inquiry. Copies of the notices were pasted on the walls of such properties.The KMC had served notices under Section 400(1) of the KMC Act 1980, which allows owners of allegedly illegal constructions an opportunity to appear before civic authorities and present their case, to 17 properties owned or co-owned by Abhishek Banerjee in areas within the KMC’s jurisdiction.Illegal constructions demolishedIllegal constructions, including properties of criminal Biswajit Poddar alias Sona Pappu, who has been arrested, are being demolished by bulldozers in Tiljala, Kasba and Beliaghata from Sunday morning, KMC Municipal Commissioner Smita Pandey confirmed.Pandey told ET that at least six buildings were dismantled, including those belonging to Sona Pappu."Building plans were not sanctioned. No plans were submitted. Then we served notices and called for the hearing but no one appeared," Pandey said."Action will be taken against all concerned, who are responsible and action will be taken against them," Pandey said. As per KMC law, action is taken," she said.KMDA and KMC are dismantling illegal buildings using bulldozers today in Kolkata in the presence of Kolkata Police and CRPF. West Bengal Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul and Pandey were present during the demolition of illegal constructions.“We have identified the buildings and they are completely illegal. KMC and state government action will be taken against the KMC officials who were instrumental in helping them. Action will be taken against the developers and promoters also. For 15 years, the previous government has ignored and compromised,” West Bengal Municipal Affairs Minister Agnimitra Paul said.“Police cooperation is necessary as we can take steps as police and administration as our government is in power. Police was earlier prevented from taking steps. We will follow law and do the necessary,” she said. Municipal Commissioner Smita Pandey was present with Paul during the action.Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate on Friday conducted fresh searches at multiple premises in Bengal as part of its money laundering probe linked to former Kolkata Police DCP Shantanu Sinha Biswas and alleged criminal Biswajit Poddar alias Sona Pappu, who were arrested earlier, officials said.A total of nine premises, including those in Kasba, Chakraberia and Royd Street areas in Kolkata and the ancestral residence of Biswas in Murshidabad’s Kandi, are being raided, they said.
