Commuters travelling across west Delhi are likely to face long traffic snarls over the next one-and-a-half months after a major road stretch near Nawada Metro Station was shut for repair work. Delhi Traffic Police has warned that congestion may increase sharply on the busy Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar corridor, especially during office and market rush hours.The affected stretch lies on the Najafgarh-Uttam Nagar Main Road from Dwarka Mod towards Uttam Nagar, between metro pillar numbers 722 and 723. According to traffic police, the carriageway has been closed since May 20 and is expected to remain shut for nearly 45 days.Sewer line repair work underwayThe closure comes after the Delhi Jal Board began trenchless sewer line restoration work beneath the road. Since the route connects densely populated residential areas and commercial markets in west Delhi, officials expect traffic movement to remain slow for several weeks.Daily commuters travelling between Najafgarh, Dwarka Mod, Uttam Nagar and Tilak Nagar are expected to face the maximum impact. The area usually sees heavy movement of buses, commercial vehicles and local traffic throughout the day.With one section of the carriageway blocked, nearby roads and intersections may witness increased pressure during peak hours.Diversions announced for buses and heavy vehiclesDelhi Traffic Police has put diversion plans in place to reduce congestion near the repair site.Vehicles coming from Najafgarh side towards Uttam Nagar have been advised to divert through Dwarka Mod towards Dabri Mor. Buses and heavy vehicles travelling from Tilak Nagar and Uttam Nagar towards Najafgarh and Dwarka Mod will also be redirected through alternate routes.Traffic personnel have been deployed at important junctions to manage vehicle movement and prevent bottlenecks around the affected stretch.Delhi traffic advisory issued for local commutersAuthorities have requested local residents and daily commuters to avoid the affected road wherever possible and use alternate routes to reduce delays.Motorists have also been asked to plan journeys in advance and avoid roadside parking near diversion points, as illegally parked vehicles could worsen congestion.Delhi Traffic Police said commuters can check real-time traffic updates and seek assistance through official helplines and social media platforms during the ongoing repair work.
