The owner of the famous Green Parrot cafe in Wellington, Kosta Sakoufakis, has died.
The cafe, a favourite haunt of politicians and celebrities, posted on Facebook on Sunday that it had closed because of the death of a beloved family member.
“We will be closed as we take time to grieve and be together during this difficult period.
“We appreciate your understanding, love and support. We will share updates on reopening soon.”
New Zealand First leader Winston Peters, a regular at the traditional steakhouse, said on X: “Terribly sad news to hear that Costa, the longtime owner and host of the Green Parrot, has passed away.
