The High Court has certified as urgent a petition seeking to compel the National Treasury and Parliament to allocate Sh16.7 billion to the Political Parties Fund, setting the stage for a fresh legal battle over the financing of political parties ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The suit, filed by the Centre for Multiparty Democracy-Kenya (CMD-Kenya), seeks orders requiring Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Parliament to comply with statutory funding requirements under the Political Parties Act.
