A public affairs commentator, Ibrahim Aliu, has described the appointment of Prof. Segun Aina as Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board as another indication of President Bola Tinubu’s confidence in young Nigerian professionals with reform credentials.

In a statement made available to Sunday PUNCH, Aliu said the appointment of the 39-year-old scholar and examination systems expert to head one of the country’s strategic education agencies reflected the administration’s emphasis on merit, innovation and technocratic leadership.

He noted that the appointment aligned with previous decisions by the Tinubu administration to place younger professionals in key public offices, citing the appointments of Mustapha Abdullahi as Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria in 2023 at age 40, Jennifer Adighije as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company at age 42, and Zacch Adedeji as Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service.

According to him, the appointment of Aina further demonstrated the President’s belief that competence and capacity for delivery should take precedence over age considerations in governance.
