The Westville Theatre Club is concerned about intermittent water outages that disrupt productions and frustrate patrons in attendance.
Dorothy O'Neill, secretary to the club’s committee, responded to the eThekwini Municipality's announcement of water rationing for residential areas and businesses supplied by the Southern Aqueduct system until Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The municipality stated that this was necessary because the system is currently unable to operate at full capacity following the completion of the planned Southern Aqueduct shutdown and tie-in works.
The municipality explained that although the tie-in works were completed successfully on Friday, May 22, and the new steel pipeline was commissioned as planned, one section of the existing prestressed concrete pipe (PCP) in Northbourne Road, Westville, remains closed.
