In line with the austerity measures and energy conservation initiatives advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Puducherry government has come out with a public advisory aimed at conserving energy.A release from the Office of the District Collector cum District Magistrate said the Chief Secretary held a video conference with all Secretaries on May 20 to discuss measures to be adopted for efficient utilisation of energy in government offices and public places. Department-specific instructions were issued for the implementation of energy conservation measures. Public are also advised to adopt responsible and restrained practices while organising events. Political parties and organisations are advised to avoid bike rallies, motor processions, and large vehicle conveys during events. Further, the use of decorative lighting, flex hoardings, and Diesel Generator (DG) sets should be minimised to the extent possible. Adoption of such measures will significantly contribute towards conservation of energy and fuel and reduce pollution and traffic congestion. Organisations and the public are advised to conduct simple events and promote the use of public transport, the release said. “The Prime Minister has consistently emphasised the need to minimise avoidable expenditure and reduce unnecessary energy consumption as part of the collective national effort towards sustainable development, environmental protection, and efficient resource management. Public cooperation could contribute to the national objective of energy efficiency and support India’s commitment towards achieving sustainable growth,” the release said.
