Wearing a brown safari shirt and a dark blue hat, Prabowo joined local fishermen in pulling in a net during the harvest of vannamei shrimp, also known as whiteleg shrimp.Prabowo was assisted by several people while hauling the net. After completing the harvest activity, he continued the agenda by delivering a speech in a tent set up near the pond area. The event was attended by government officials and local residents. During his remarks, Prabowo said the shrimp aquaculture project in Kebumen had been operating successfully for the past three years. The project was inaugurated on March 9, 2023, by former president Joko Widodo and former Central Java governor Ganjar Pranowo.“Today, I came here to witness the large-scale shrimp harvest of this project, which has been running for three years and has now reached world-class production levels,” Prabowo said, as broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat.According to Prabowo, one hectare of shrimp ponds at the site can produce up to 40 tons of shrimp, which he described as an extraordinary achievement for Indonesia’s fisheries sector. He estimated that each hectare of ponds could generate significant revenue from every harvest cycle.“With prices at a minimum of Rp70,000 per kilogram, that means around Rp70 million per ton,” Prabowo explained. The former defense minister said the shrimp farming project in Kebumen demonstrated promising economic prospects and could help strengthen Indonesia’s aquaculture industry. He added that the project also has the potential to create employment opportunities for hundreds of local residents.“So this is very good, very productive. It can absorb employment for around 650 local residents,” he said.Prabowo attended the event alongside several ministers from the Red-and-White Cabinet. Among those accompanying the president were Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Zulkifli Hasan.Other officials present included State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.Read: Cabinet Secretary, GoTo CEO Discuss Prabowo Policy on Online Motorcycle TaxisClick here to get the latest news updates from Tempo on Google News
