The surprising signs your body needs more water, according to a GP.
With temperatures expected to rise across the UK this weekend, you might be planning to enjoy the sun while it’s here – and even if you’re not, it is still going to be incredibly hot.
You may be all set with your barbecue, summer playlist, hat and sunglasses, but have you thought about something even more essential? Water; chemically made up of two hydrogen atoms bonded to one oxygen atom. It sounds like a simple chemical compound, but it is the most vital component for life and our health.

The human body can survive for a time without food, but it cannot survive for long without water. Water is an essential component of health, with an estimated 50-80 per cent of our bodies and brains being made up of water. It allows us to deliver nutrients to cells in our blood, lubricates our joints, regulates our temperature and much more. We lose water every day in processes like sweating, going to the toilet and even through our lungs when we breathe. Conversely, we cannot store water (unlike water-holding frogs or desert tortoises) or make our own source of hydration, so we need to make sure we take enough in every day. We need to stay hydrated.
