Al Ain capped a record-breaking season by clinching the domestic double in Abu Dhabi on Friday night.Soufiane Rahimi scored twice, before Abdoul Karim Traore and Erik helped themselves to one each as they beat Al Jazira 4-1 in the President’s Cup final at Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium. The victory came less than a week after they concluded an undefeated campaign in the UAE Pro League.President's Cup final winners Al Ain celebrate with the trophy. WamInfoThey are the first side to have achieved that since the top division of UAE football went professional.Their dominance was only briefly slowed, as they made a tepid start in the finale to the country’s most sought-after cup competition.Given they were facing a side that had not lost all season, Marino Pusic, the Jazira coach, was remarkably confident ahead of the game. And well he might, given the pedigree of players available to him. Jazira’s starting XI included several regulars in the UAE national team, plus a few other notables who have experience of some of Europe’s top leagues. It was one of the latter who gave them the lead. Nabil Fekir, the French playmaker who was once worthy of a big-money move from Lyon to Real Betis, struck the opener when he crashed a free kick in from the edge of the box.Almost immediately, Jazira showed just why they had been so far off the pace in the UAE Pro League. It is impossible to challenge for league honours for a side that defends as naively as they did to let Al Ain back into the game.Almost as soon as they were ahead, Al Ain struck back directly from a Jazira attacking free-kick.It took one straight ball downfield from there to leave Rahimi with a clear run on goal. The Moroccan forward made no mistake. He doubled his tally in almost identical fashion: a through-ball from Kaku, the midfielder who is World Cup-bound with Paraguay, exposing a massive gap behind the Jazira defence for Rahimi to gallop into.Again, he rifled his shot past Ali Kashif to put the league champions 2-1 up.They were 3-1 ahead by half-time, less because of lax defending as poor goalkeeping this time. Kashif let midfielder Traore’s shot squirm through his hands. With a two-goal buffer, the side from the Garden City found it easy to keep Jazira at arm’s length in the second phase. They soaked up the pressure, and were the more dangerous side on the break. Chances fell the way of Traore – who was outstanding in midfield – and substitute Houssein Rahimi, without any addition to the score. As they cruised towards the trophy presentation, they added the gloss when Erik, the diminutive left-back who had come on as a substitute, popped up to head the fourth in stoppage time.
