Sir, – Alumina is not currently included in EU sanctions against Russia despite your report that Aughinish Alumina in Limerick is shipping “vast amounts” of its product to smelters in Russia, where it is processed and transferred to manufacture a wide range of missiles, tanks and other weapons (“EU will prevent sale of goods for use in Russia’s military, says bloc’s sanctions official,” News, May 19th).A few days earlier (May 15th) your paper reported that 24 people, including three teenagers, had died following a targeted Russian missile attack that flattened a Kyiv apartment building. As a nation, are we comfortable that local jobs take priority over the lives of Ukrainian men, women and children? – Yours, etc,RONNIE SIMPSON,Bray,Co Wicklow.
