The body was located at around 9am on Saturday morning near the Whakatāne River entrance.
A search for a missing diver in Whakatāne has ended in tragedy after a body was recovered on Saturday morning.
Emergency services had been scouring the area before the discovery was made near the Whakatāne River entrance at around 9am.
Police confirmed the body is believed to be that of the missing diver.
A police spokesperson said support is being provided to the grieving family. “Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.”
The death has been referred to the coroner.
