Toronto will close Church Street to north-south traffic between Wellesley and Alexander streets from June 19 to August 21.
Toronto will make part of the Church-Wellesley Village mostly car-free this summer, a move long-sought by frequenters of the busy downtown strip also known as the Gay Village.
Church Street will be closed off to north-south traffic between Wellesley and Alexander streets from June 19 to Aug. 21. Cars will still be able to drive through the east-west intersections of the village.
A move to have city staff look for candidate streets for next summer has supporters of car-free streets hopeful.
Police say requirements for any future such projects will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
