ILOILO CITY – Positioning herself at the forefront of the country’s democratic opposition, Sen. Risa Hontiveros on Friday, May 22, confirmed she is “seriously considering” a run for higher office in 2028, framing the current political landscape as an informal “primaries” for potential leaders.
Speaking to local media during her visit to the island province of Guimaras, the Senate Deputy Minority Leader issued a strong appeal to progressive and democratic forces to unite behind a single candidate when the national campaign officially begins.
For Hontiveros, a splintered opposition is not an option if they hope to challenge the administration’s machinery in the next presidential election.
