The Automobile Boatyards Transport Equipment and Allied Senior Staff Association (AUTOBATE) has condemned a controversial and non-transparent merger process involving Honda workers in Nigeria, accusing the management of Honda Manufacturing Nigeria Limited (HMN) and Honda Automobile Western Africa (HAWA) of attempting to suppress workers’ rights through judicial manipulation.

This was contained in a statement signed by the General Secretary of AUTOBATE Senior Staff Association, Lai Brown, the union rejected the ongoing merger arrangement and alleged that management deliberately concealed material facts from the court while seeking legal orders aimed at silencing workers and freezing union activities.

According to the union, HMN and HAWA are separate corporate entities duly registered under Nigerian law, despite ongoing plans by management to merge their operations.

The statement read, “To set the record straight, Honda Manufacturing Nigeria Limited (HMN) and Honda Automobile Western Africa (HAWA) are two distinct corporate entities registered separately under Nigerian law.
