The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed counterfeit, substandard, falsified, expired and unwholesome regulated products valued at over ₦1.8billion at the Kuje dumpsite in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in a major enforcement exercise aimed at protecting public health and ensuring unsafe goods do not re-enter the market.
In a statement issued on Friday, it was noted that the destruction exercise involved the incineration of counterfeit medicines, banned sachet alcohol, expired pharmaceuticals, fake chemicals and other unsafe products seized across Abuja and surrounding areas.
Also included in the destruction were items voluntarily submitted by companies, non-governmental organisations, and the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN).
Authorities said the operation underscores the scale of illicit and unsafe products circulating within the system and the agency’s determination to curb their distribution.
