Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya could visit Ukraine in the near future. Speaking at an online briefing on Friday, Sybiha commented on recent remarks by Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, who said he was ready to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky.JOIN US ON TELEGRAMFollow our coverage of the war on the @Kyivpost_official. “There have been no diplomatic contacts with Belarus recently,” Sybiha said, adding that Tsikhanouskaya could visit Ukraine instead. According to Belarus’s state news agency Belta, Lukashenko said Belarus does not plan to become directly involved in Russia’s war against Ukraine unless its territory is attacked. “We are not going to get involved in the war in Ukraine,” Lukashenko said. “There is no need for this.” Tsikhanouskaya met Zelensky in Vilnius, where she expressed support for Ukraine and thanked Kyiv for distinguishing between the Belarusian people and the Lukashenko regime. She emerged as the main opposition figure during Belarus’s disputed 2020 presidential election after her husband, blogger Sergei Tsikhanousky, was arrested. Tsikhanouskaya ran in his place and became the face of mass protests after opposition supporters and independent observers said she had won the vote. Authorities declared Lukashenko the winner, triggering months of demonstrations and a crackdown on dissent. Tikhanovskaya later left Belarus and has continued her political activities abroad. Her husband was released from detention in June 2025 following a visit to Minsk by US special envoy Keith Kellogg.
