Newly released material from the so-called UFO files includes footage captured by a coast guard, which appears to show a mysterious object zooming past an aircraft over the US14:41, 22 May 2026Updated 14:54, 22 May 2026The US has released another batch of its so-called UFO files as part of an ongoing declassification drive ordered by President Donald Trump. The files include references to people reporting unexplained green orbs, discs and fireballs zooming across the sky, with investigators yet to find an explanation for the sightings.US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the "unidentified anomalous phenomena" had long fueled speculation, adding: "It's time the American people see it for themselves."More than 50 previously classified videos and documents linked to unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAPs) - the official government term for UFOs - were made public by the Pentagon today.Among the newly released material is footage captured by a US Coast Guard infrared sensor in April 2024, which appears to show a mysterious object flying near an aircraft over the south-eastern United States.Another clip, titled 'Syrian UAP instant acceleration', was recorded by an infrared sensor aboard a US military platform in 2021 before later being uploaded to a classified network in 2024, according to the Pentagon.Military officials admit many of the incidents remain "unresolved" and cannot be explained. Multiple investigations have been carried out by the Pentagon's All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), but it is yet to find any evidence of extra-terrestrial activity. Also included in the latest batch is footage from an undisclosed area under US Central Command. The clip, filmed in 2020, appears to show a sphere soaring over a population centre before eventually flying higher, off into the sky.Last year, a senior US intelligence officer described seeing "two large orbs flare up" alongside their helicopter while on a mission, the new files show. The officer described the orbs as being "orange with a white or yellow centre, and emitted light in all directions."Fighter jets were deployed to try and identify the objects but couldn't, the officer said. The same orbs had instead started "chasing" the fighters, the report adds. "We were virtually speechless after these observations," the officer said. The Pentagon's initial batch of files, which dated as far back as the late 1940s, raked in more than a billion views worldwide, according to the Pentagon's top spokesman.Article continues below"In an effort for Complete and Maximum Transparency, it was my Honor to direct my Administration to identify and provide Government files related to Alien and Extraterrestrial Life, Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, and Unidentified Flying Objects," Trump said at the time in a post on Truth Social."Whereas previous Administrations have failed to be transparent on this subject, with these new Documents and Videos, the people can decide for themselves, "WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?" Have Fun and Enjoy!"
