The apex court had heard six consolidated appeals on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, and reserved judgment until Friday, May 22, 2026.

The Supreme Court on Friday delivered judgment in the appeal filed in the case of Fayemi Tosin Babatunde v. INEC & 4 Others (SC/CV/229/2026), setting aside key aspects of an earlier Court of Appeal ruling relating to the leadership crisis and governorship primary election of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ekiti State.

The apex court had heard six consolidated appeals on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, and reserved judgment until Friday, May 22, 2026.

In its decision, the Supreme Court held that the lead judgment in SC/CV/229/2026 would apply to the remaining five appeals.

Babatunde, an aggrieved party member, had challenged the legitimacy of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party led by Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe and Dr. Olu Agunloye.
