Themba Zwane and his MamelodI Sundowns teammates.

“Once you lift the Champions League … because that trophy is not for anyone. To get there, it’s hard. So, when you lift it, they must respect you!”

These were the words of Mamelodi Sundowns winger Tashreeq Matthews.

It certainly holds gravitas, for only two South African teams have ever managed to claim the coveted continental star, with Sundowns last crowned crowned champions of Africa exactly a decade ago.

Two members of the legendary 2016 squad, which includes 40-year-old reserve goalkeeper Denis Onyango and mercurial playmaker Themba Zwane, remain and form part of Sundowns’ quest to bring the CAF Champions League trophy back to South Africa when they face AS FAR on Sunday.
