A study of 2,000 adults found 30% believe strong money management is one of the most attractive traits in a partner – ranking it above being outgoing, family-oriented or ambitious.It was most common among Millennials, with 35% saying it’s a major plus – the highest of any generation. And 56% of Millennials admitted they’d be likely to end a relationship because of poor money management.The research, carried out for investment app XTB, found the top relationship traits are being trustworthy, being funny and being kind.Joshua Raymond, UK managing director at the company, said: "Attitudes towards money have shifted, with financial responsibility increasingly seen as a sign of maturity rather than being something dull or restrictive."As the cost of living continues to shape everyday decisions, it's not surprising younger people are finding financial responsibility a more significant trait."For many, being good with money signals reliability and forward-thinking, which are qualities people want in a lasting relationship."The study also found the average age people start looking for a financially astute partner is 26, while 51% of adults said it’s something they focus on more now than they did 10 years ago.Overall, 78% agreed being good with money is an attractive quality in a partner, saying it shows they’re responsible, reduces stress around finances and makes people feel more secure about the future.Just 12% said they’d prefer someone who spends money generously, compared with 56% who’d rather be with someone focused on saving and financial security.At the start of a relationship, 59% said they were open about money. That was highest among Gen Z and Millennials, who were the most upfront of any generation polled, according to data from OnePoll.co.uk.In total, 34% said they expect a potential partner to be financially responsible.
