I’m keeping my blinders on because every time I open social media another viable fantasy asset seems to bite the dust. This week’s injury mayhem hit especially fast, its wrath claiming another dozen or so players, leaving us with no choice but to plug as many holes in the fantasy dam as possible. And that’s where I come in! Every week, I’ll go position by position, ranking the very best additions in all formats, including hitter and pitcher stashes, and a ranking of all available upcoming two-start SPs. Enough pleasantries, let’s get down to business …NOTE: Please prioritize positional lists over the featured player write-ups. I’m trying to avoid covering the same players more than once and don’t want any extra focus misconstrued as personal preference. Thanks, and away we go!Top waiver wire hitter optionsCatcher: Gabriel Moreno, ARI Those of you who scooped up San Francisco’s Jesus Rodriguez last week, only to see him lose playing time to Eric Haase, need an immediate replacement (and deserve an apology). However, with so many viable fantasy backstops floating around this season, a really good one slipping through the cracks was more or less inevitable. Moreno was drafted as a consensus top-12 catcher for three years running, and if his recent power metrics are any indication, the oblique injury that sidelined him lies firmly in the rear-view mirror. Still batting from the back-half of the Diamondbacks’ order for now, expect a lineup bump if the way he’s swinging the stick continues — 80.0% Contact, 42.3% Hard Hit, 11.3% Barrel, 21.1% Air-Pull. He’s going to play more days than not in a solid lineup and good hitting environment, especially as the desert heats up.First base: Spencer Steer, CINStaying in the vein of players who at one point would've shocked the fantasy community to be available in two thirds of leagues is Steer. Drafted well within the top 125 in both 2024 and 2025, Steer eventually fell outside pick 250 in 2026 despite posting a third consecutive +20-homer season. As part of the guilty party, I thought playing time in Cincy could be sparse, which wound up being terribly wrong — Steer's now started every single game for over a month. We know there's a fantasy ceiling in there somewhere, and it's showing once more — he's 10th among 1B in fantasy value over the past 30 days (.313 BA/ 13 Runs/ 18 RBI/ 4 HR/ 3 SB). Remember, as the weather warms, there are few places more friendly to hit than Great American "Small Park."Second base: Brett Baty, NYMIt's almost June, and the Mets are last in their division with the National League's third-worst record. However, rumors of their demise may be greatly exaggerated, given a closer look at recent offensive output. Over the past two weeks, New York is sitting among the top-10 lineups in all observable macro measures — OPS, woBA, xwOBA, wRC+ — and Baty's a major reason. Since receiving a much-needed off day on April 20, following a dismal start to the season (72 PA, .200 BA, 0 HR, 30.9% K, 31 wRC+), Baty's played extremely well, featuring the power stroke everyone anticipated to start the year (43.6% Hard Hit, 18.2% Air-Pull, .363 xwOBA, 3 HR). Baty has played his way into an everyday role, and I believe he'll get every chance to succeed as a rest-of-season fantasy contributor.Shortstop: Colt Emerson, SEA Perhaps it's a West Coast media cycle thing, but Seattle's promotion of Emerson, the No. 22 pick of the 2023 MLB Draft, occurred somewhat unceremoniously this past Sunday. Maybe the suboptimal hitting environment played into the calculus as well. I'm not sure. Nevertheless, I've struggled to fill in a particular hole at SS, and there's at least a chance Emerson could stick. Featuring solid disciplinary skills throughout his MiLB career, Emerson offers GMs a shot at five-category production — if the batting average projections prove low without a fly ball-heavy foundation to weigh them down. I'm not expecting .290 by any stretch, but the .235 consensus falls short of my expectations. Emerson should be up for good, although I'm not dropping any big names for his services, since poor production and the eventual return of Brendan Donovan could spoil any long-term plans.Third base: Alec Bohm, PHITime for a narrative sandwich. The only fantasy baseball acquisition better than a first-rounder of a past MLB draft is one who's also a post-hype sleeper in a perfect buy-low scenario. Oh, baby. Enter Bohm, who snapped a 2-for-44 slump with a multi-hit game on Earth Day and hasn't looked back since (.302 AVG, .847 OPS, 4 HR, 135 wRC+) . If anything, Bohm made a perfect positive regression candidate based on batting average alone. He was never going to never hit .220 for a season after hitting .280 for nearly 3,000 plate appearances. Still just the No. 36 3B on FanGraphs' Player Rater (year-to-date), Bohm's batting clean up every day for a very good offense — and more closely represents the player who is the No. 4 third baseman over the past two weeks rather than an afterthought. The only real downside here is an absence of steals, which we can generally recover from at third base.Outfield: A.J. Ewing, NYMAt just 21 years old, getting outmatched in MLB would be understandable. However, nothing could be further from the case for New York's new rookie center fielder. Combining for a hit, a steal, plus a pair of runs and RBI each in his debut, Ewing showed his fantasy potential right out of the gate. I've heard concerns over his power playing up at the highest level, but if the underlying stats are any indication, he'll be just fine — .287 xBA, 42.1% Hard Hit, 10.5% Barrel, .510 xwOBAcon. Talk about encouraging. Also, some pundits think there's some playing time risk when (and if) Luis Robert returns. Personally, I'm staying firm in my resolve that those lost plate appearances will belong to Tyrone Taylor and MJ Melendez. I'm fully expecting a slow climb to universal rostership for Ewing.Hitter stash candidatesTop waiver wire pitcher optionsStartersWould you believe me if I told you J.T. Ginn headlined my starter column before his most recent masterclass? Regardless of your response, the horse isn't quite out of the fantasy barn yet on the Athletics' 27-year-old righty. Still rostered in fewer than 40% of fantasy leagues, Ginn's finally assuming a trajectory the Mets hoped for when drafting him 52nd overall in 2020. Always featuring good secondary offerings, Ginn needed an efficient arsenal tweak to get us the pitcher we see today. The Athletics throttled Ginn's extreme +50% sinker use for more changeups and cutters — and what do you know? He's shot up FanGraphs' Player Rater basically every week since.Maybe his ceiling is a little lower than the overall SP4 (which he has been over the past two weeks), but my current projections aren't far off from the top-25 starter rating this past calendar month. Ginn is tentatively slated to face the Yankees on his next turn and might be bench-worthy, but I'm not missing the forest for the trees here. Reliable starting pitchers come few and far between, especially when attached to above-average offenses in a win-starved environment.RelieversMining the perfect fantasy closer comes down to finding the ideal combination of skills and role. Remember not to get too hung up on the first part, either — we'll still take the bad pitcher getting save opportunities. For those managers who punted saves on draft day, the season begins on high alert, but fear not; you're in luck. MLB's save environment is literally as chaotic as ever.Despite just reaching May, over 130 pitchers have already recorded a save in 2026. With that, the goal is to acquire a reliever who either has the job now or direct access to it soon. Given the incredible number of league types out there, our best course is to keep a running list of relievers; grab the best available.Graduating classThe following players are now on many fantasy rosters, but those in 10-team leagues should look to them first before adding other, lesser-rostered players.

John Laghezza points out the best of this week's waiver wire, including an A's pitcher who has seen great results from an arsenal tweak.
