The fictional scenario involved Estonia triggering NATO's Article 5
The British Army, together with NATO allies France, Italy and the US, practised the command of an Article-5 scenario involving 100,000 personnel from an unused underground London subway station, the Ministry of Defence announced on Friday.
NATO’s ARRCADE STRIKE exercise, which was set up in an unused part of the Charing Cross subway station earlier this week, tested the UK’s ability to lead large-scale land operations in defence of Europe, the ministry said in a statement.
“This groundbreaking Army exercise shows that with UK leadership, the ARRC (Allied Rapid Reaction Corps) can deploy at pace to command tens of thousands of troops to defend NATO territory,” Defence Minister John Healey said.
