Arne Slot says he does not feel undermined by Mohamed Salah’s stinging criticism of Liverpool’s playing style. The Egyptian forward posted a thinly-veiled attack of the head coach on social media following last week’s 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa. He talked about Liverpool losing their identity and called for the return of “heavy metal” football, a phrase synonymous with Jurgen Klopp’s Anfield reign.Ahead of Salah’s final game for the club at home to Brentford on Sunday, Slot opted not to inflame tensions further. Liverpool need a point to be mathematically certain of securing Champions League football.“I don’t think it is that important what I feel about it,” he said. “What is important is that we qualify for the Champions League on Sunday and I prepare Mo and the whole team in the best possible way for the game. I don’t know if it had an impact on the group but what I have seen is that the team trained really well this week.“Mo and I both have the same interests, we want the best for this club. We want the club to be as successful as possible. I think Mo was really happy with the style we played last year as it led to us winning the league. We were both part of giving our fans their first league title for five years (last season).“We are also aware we didn’t have the same level this season. The game on Sunday could give us a really good base going into next season.”Slot wouldn’t confirm whether Salah will feature against Brentford: “I never say anything about team selection so it would be a surprise to you if I did that right now.”However, Alisson and Alexander Isak are both back in contention following injury. “Ali will train with us today, so that’s positive,” he added. “Alex trains for the first time with us today and will do parts of what we are going to do.”Slot believes the wider debate over Liverpool’s style of play has to factor in how opponents have set up this season.“Football has changed, I think we can all see this,” he said. “Let’s take the game we play against Brentford this weekend. I saw (Manchester) City, who are still one of the teams who play very nice football, take 60 minutes before they had their first chance against them. Then they scored from a set-piece and after Brentford were a few times really close to making it 1-1.“Five or six years ago City against Brentford would have been a 5, 6, 7, or 8-0 win for City but that is not the reality of the league any more. We have to find that right balance of still being able to compete but definitely also play the brand of football the fans want to see and I want my team to play.“If I like it then the fans will like it was well because I haven’t liked a lot of the way we played this season. There were far too many games where we dominated ball possession but it didn’t lead to anything special.”
