The Senate of Panteion University approved a partnership with Columbia University to launch an English-language dual master’s program on “Global China,” despite objections from some faculty members and students over tuition fees.
The program, approved under a Recovery and Resilience Fund initiative supporting the internationalization of Greek universities, will allow students to attend two separate postgraduate programs and receive degrees from both institutions. Tuition was set at €5,000 for Panteion students and €80,000 for Columbia students. Panteion will offer up to 30 places and scholarships. Part of the revenue will cover operating costs, while another part will go to the university’s research fund.
The program is scheduled to begin in the 2027-2028 academic year. The senate approved the final proposal by majority vote, with one vote against and three blank ballots, after concerns that rejecting it could force the university to return funding. The universities have cooperated since 2020 on academic conference activities.
