By Ben Tan Friday, 22 May 2026 12:35 PM MYT JOHOR BAHRU, May 22 — Police have obtained a six-day remand order starting today against a male teacher following his arrest in connection with a sexual misconduct case involving a primary school pupil in Seri Alam, Pasir Gudang.Seri Alam police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the 28-year-old suspect will be remanded until May 27 to assist in investigations. He said the suspect was earlier brought to the Johor Bahru Court Complex this morning for a remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).“The Magistrate’s Court granted the six-day remand order to enable police to conduct further investigations into the case,” he said when contacted by the media today.Police have classified the case under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which criminalises physical sexual assault against a child. The provision specifically addresses instances where a person, for a sexual purpose, touches any part of a child’s body. The offence carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping upon conviction.Earlier, police confirmed the arrest of the suspect at 10.30pm last night following allegations of sexual misconduct involving a 12-year-old primary schoolgirl. The arrest came after a police report was lodged by the victim’s 37-year-old mother at 9pm yesterday. She claimed the incident was believed to have taken place in the Seri Alam area in Pasir Gudang last year. The allegations, which first surfaced on Facebook through a whistleblower, sparked public concern after complaints involving the teacher were reportedly lodged with police, education authorities and the Public Complaints Bureau since last year. The suspect was later identified as a teacher’s assistant in his 20s who had previously been temporarily reassigned before returning to active teaching duties.
