In a statement posted across his social media accounts on Thursday evening WIB, the Manchester United defender said he was shocked and devastated by Tuchel’s decision to omit him from the Three Lions squad.“I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision,” the 33-year-old wrote.Despite his disappointment, Maguire wished the England squad success at the 2026 World Cup.“I’ve loved nothing more than putting that shirt on and representing my country over the years. I wish the players, all the best this summer,” he added.Maguire only returned to the England national team in March and started in England’s friendly victory over Uruguay. The match marked his first international appearance since September 2024.At club level, Maguire has enjoyed a resurgence with Manchester United after a difficult start to the season. He initially struggled for regular playing time under former manager Ruben Amorim.However, after recovering from a hamstring injury in January and with Michael Carrick taking charge of the team, Maguire regained his place as a first-choice defender.The center-back has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season and helped Manchester United secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.Maguire also brings significant international experience, having earned 66 caps for England and started every match at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. He was forced to miss UEFA Euro 2024 due to injury.England are scheduled to open their 2026 World Cup campaign against Croatia national football team on June 18 in Dallas.
