Shonda Rhimes and Meg Marinis are set to expand the "Grey’s Anatomy" universe with a new spinoff in Texas, introducing a fresh cast and exploring the unique challenges of healthcare in rural communities.

More than 20 years after first introducing fans to the chaos of Seattle Grace Hospital, “Grey’s Anatomy” is expanding once again, this time heading far away from Seattle.

ABC has announced a brand-new Texas-set spinoff from Shonda Rhimes and current “Grey’s Anatomy” showrunner Meg Marinis, who will co-create and write the upcoming medical drama.

According to reports online, the untitled series will be set at a rural medical centre in West Texas described as “the last chance for care before miles of nowhere”.

The story will centre on a team of medical professionals working in an isolated community, placing the spotlight on the realities of healthcare far from major cities.
