ISAP2026 - The 18th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific
“Strengthening Local Resilience to Planetary Crises: Scaling up Synergistic Solutions”
The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) is set to host the 18th International Forum for Sustainable Asia and the Pacific (ISAP2026). For the first time, ISAP will be held in Kansai under the overall theme, ‘Strengthening Local Resilience to Planetary Crises: Scaling up Synergistic Solutions’. The Plenary Sessions (hybrid) will take place on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, at the Lasse Hall in Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, while the Thematic Tracks* will be held online from August to October 2026.
In a world where we are already experiencing the triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, escalating global instability is making the achievement of sustainability even more challenging. This reality demands multifaceted responses at both the national and local levels. It is now more critical than ever to move away from siloed efforts and embrace integrated, synergistic solutions, fostering collaboration among stakeholders.
ISAP2026 will highlight the latest international trends related to synergies, including the Asia-Pacific Synergy Report, a new publication jointly developed by United Nations agencies, IGES and other partners. This report compiles best practice examples and recommendations from across the Asia-Pacific region. This year’s Forum will also provide an opportunity to explore how synergistic approaches can be implemented locally and how initiatives being advanced in regional areas, including Kansai, can be expanded internationally, thereby broadening the circle of synergy.
