Attahiru died on May 21, 2021, alongside 10 other military officers and personnel in a military aircraft crash while travelling to Kaduna State for the passing-out parade of army recruits.

A former lawmaker, Hon Shehu Usman Bawa, has called on the Nigerian government and military authorities to strengthen national institutions in honour of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, whose death anniversary was marked on Thursday.

In a statement titled “A Soldier’s Duty, Unfinished: In Remembrance of Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru,” Bawa described the late army chief as a courageous military leader whose legacy of professionalism and discipline should remain a guiding standard for Nigeria’s security architecture.

Attahiru died on May 21, 2021, alongside 10 other military officers and personnel in a military aircraft crash while travelling to Kaduna State for the passing-out parade of army recruits.

Reflecting on the fifth anniversary of the tragedy, Bawa said the late military commander represented a rare model of leadership defined by responsibility and personal example.
