Rylan Clark gives incredible insight into his life by answering questions on ITV's The Assembly21:21, 21 May 2026Rylan Clark says he has “no regrets” with the way his marriage ended - even though it led to a breakdown where he couldn’t even make a cup of tea. The TV and radio presenter, 37, gives an incredible insight into his life answering questions on The Assembly, the ITV show where celebs are quizzed by a group of autistic, neurodivergent and/or learning disabled people.‌Viewers on Sunday night will see him be asked about a wide range of subjects for his use of fake tan to his mental health. Rylan was married to Dan Neal for six years until he confessed to cheating which resulted in the end of their marriage in 2021.‌Asked if honesty is always the best policy, Rylan replies: “Oh wow. Yeah I think it is. I'm okay admitting when I'm in the wrong, because actually I don't deal well with guilt, and I don't deal well with secrets. It made me so ill, and it sounds a terrible thing to say, but I'm glad it happened.‌“I never think about him(ex-husband). I miss feeling like I've got it all. I thought I had life done. I've got the job, I've got the family, I've got the marriage, I've got the car, I've got the house. I thought I had it sussed. I didn't have anything sussed. I didn't know what was a real relationship. And I can look back now and know that I don't regret anything.”READ MORE: Zoe Ball and Rylan Clark break Strictly silence after hosting role snub for trioREAD MORE: Rylan Clark hints he'd quit TV for very different career as 'fame ain't everything'After the breakup Rylan suffered a breakdown which he wrote about in his book TEN: The decade that changed my future in 2022. Asked how he coped when his marriage collapsed on The Assembly, he said: “Not well. When my marriage ended, you know that term when someone says to pull the rug from under you. Yeah, that's the only way I can describe it. It's like someone went like that and I just fell over and I couldn't get back up, like I broke both my arms and legs.”‌He added: “I went back to live with my mum, because I didn't want to be in my house. There was too many memories of things in there. So, I did this thing with a cup of tea, which is going to sound really strange, but it helped me.“On day one, I walked over to the kettle in my mom's house and pressed the button, and then I walked away. That was enough for day one. I couldn't deal with any more. On day two, I pressed the button on the kettle and watched it boil. On day three, I pressed the button, watched it boil, and then got a cup out the cupboard, that was enough on day four, and lo and behold, I got to the day where I could make my mum a cup of tea again, and that's when I started getting better. “Because I knew, hang on a minute, yeah, I might not be able to run, but I can crawl, then I can walk, and now I can run.”Rylan was also asked by the group about his friends being cancelled. This could refer to the likes of Phillip Schofield and Scott Mills in recent times, who were mainstream hosts on TV and radio but no longer have jobs, due to things they did in their private lives.‌Rylan said: “At the end of the day. If someone's done something wrong, then I understand why they can't carry on doing what they're doing. But I do feel today that we live in a world where people will want to go for you and cancel you, for the sake of just doing it, because they can. Don't always believe what you hear or read. Don't be frightened to ask why.”Rylan rose to fame on The X Factor in 2012 and at that time admitted he would give anything to be famous. But now he is a huge star he looks at being in the spotlight differently. Asked why being famous was so important, he replied: “It's not. That was the thing that I was actually looking forward to, was like people knowing who I was, people wanting to know me, things like that. And then I got it.“I don't know if I get in trouble for this, but I don't care. I've earned a lot of money over the years, and I'm grateful for that, but it became the one thing I hated the most.” He says the best thing about fame has been providing his mum with a new house which he bought.Article continues below* Rylan’s episode of The Assembly airs Sunday May 24 at 10pm on ITV1 and ITVX.If you are struggling with mental health, you can speak to a trained advisor from Mind mental health charity on 0300 123 3393 or email info@mind.org.ukLike this story?
