The retailer is said to be closing outlets that are loss-making and "the most challenged" of its estate.Despite the closures, the company’s plans for growth still call for the opening of more Morrisons Daily convenience stores. Chief Executive Rami Baitiéh is reported to be looking to open hundreds more in the coming years, according to industry outlet The Grocer, which first reported the closure plans.All the shops affected by the closure proposal are former McColl's stores, according to reports. Morrisons bought McColl's in 2022, out-bidding Asda to secure the purchase.Morrisons' growth strategy reportedly calls for the majority of the new Morrisons Daily outlets to be run as franchises, rather than being directly owned by the supermarket chain.The retailer has been grappling with raised debt interest costs and challenging headwinds in recent years. Plans to cut more than 200 head office jobs were announced in April as part of wider cost-cutting measures.Around 8% of jobs at the company’s headquarters at Hilmore House in Bradford were said to be at risk, according to reports at the time.
