Nigel Farage is facing fresh questions over a £5m gift after it emerged it may breach ethics rules that were clarified following Boris Johnson’s declaration of a £15,000 holiday in Mustique.

The development comes as the parliamentary standards watchdog continues its investigation into whether the Reform UK leader broke Commons rules by accepting the substantial gift from billionaire donor Christopher Harborne without declaring it.

The Reform leader’s critics argue that established parliamentary precedents blow apart Farage’s defence for keeping the massive payout from the crypto tycoon a secret.

Farage has fiercely maintained that the multimillion-pound sum was an exempt “personal, unconditional gift”.

However, in January, 2020, Johnson specifically asked parliamentary officials if he needed to register a £15,000 holiday to the Caribbean island of Mustique, which was funded by businessman David Ross.
