The Kremlin on Thursday said the exercises, among the largest nuclear readiness operations conducted by Russia in recent years, involve about 64,000 military personnel across Russia and Belarus.
Russian authorities said that the three-day operation, which commenced on Tuesday, is aimed at testing the “preparation and use of nuclear forces in the event of aggression,” according to Reuters.
The military exercises reportedly involve Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces, long-range aviation units, the Northern and Pacific fleets, as well as forces from the Leningrad and Central military districts.
