The European Union (EU) on Wednesday lifted restrictive visa rules for Ethiopians, ending a two-year regime that had made access to the Schengen Area more difficult for applicants in Addis Ababa.

The decision, which adds to recent improvements in ties between Addis Ababa and Brussels, came after the European Council said Ethiopia had improved cooperation on migration enforcement, particularly over nationals seeking to enter the bloc.
