Nigerian-American author and former United States Navy SEAL, Remi Adeleke, has alleged that court documents spanning nearly three decades in his family’s legal battle against the Lagos State Government over the ownership of Banana Island were destroyed during the EndSARS protests in Nigeria.

Adeleke made the revelation during an appearance on the One54Africa podcast monitored and transcribed by SaharaReporters.

According to him, the burnt documents were connected to a longstanding court case initiated by his elder brother over what the family described as the illegal takeover of “Lagoon City,” the original name of what is now known as Banana Island in Lagos.

Speaking during the interview, Adeleke claimed that his late father, Chief Adebayo Adeleke, was the original architect and developer of the man-made island before the Lagos State Government took over the property.
