An alleged machete-wielding teenager has been arrested and charged by police during their investigation into a series of alleged arson attacks in Melbourne.The teen and two men, both aged 18, are accused of visiting three nightclub venues across Melbourne and causing fire-related damage in the early hours of May 4 and 5 this year.One of the men was arrested during a raid in Tarneit.The 17-year-old from the Wyndham area and another man, also from Tarneit, were arrested at a Maribyrnong shopping centre about 10am on Thursday.Police allege the 17-year-old was “armed with a machete.”The trio have been charged with a string of offences including aggravated burglary, criminal damage, arson, attempted arson, handling stolen goods, committing an indictable offence on bail, failing to stop and cannabis possession.The two men were remanded in custody and were due to face the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday.The teen is due to attend court on Thursday evening where police will oppose bail.A Victoria Police spokesman said Operation Eclipse detectives continued to target serious and organised crime syndicates believed to be involved in the offending and to determine the motive for these attacks.Gang Crime, Arson and Explosives squads worked with local police and regional detectives to respond and investigate these incidents, the spokesman said.“Police continue to have an increased presence in both an overt and covert capacity throughout these entertainment precincts, including increased patrols of these areas and visits to licensed premises,” a spokesman said.Read related topics:Melbourne
