Hungary’s new government let a ban on Ukrainian agri-food imports to lapse by mistake, before announcing plans to restore it, dashing brief hopes in Kyiv.
In defiance of EU law, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia imposed unilateral trade restrictions on several Ukrainian products in 2023, and have kept them in place despite repeated warnings from the European Commission.
But the Hungarian restrictions briefly expired shortly after the Tisza government took office because of what officials described as procedural oversight.
