For just the second time this season, the Boston Red Sox completed a three-game sweep, this time of the Kansas City Royals. With a 4-3 win over the Royals on Wednesday, the Red Sox have now won seven of their last nine road games, helping them move to 14-13 on the road. Now they must find a way to carry that momentum back to Fenway Park, where they’ve gone just 8-14. They’ll begin a six-game homestand against the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves on Friday. Some takeaways from Kansas City:Could Jarren Duran finally be heating up?Duran is probably hoping he could stay in Kansas City for another series or two. In the midst of a rough start to the season, Duran had one of his most productive series to date, going 4-for-10 with two homers, a double, a triple and six RBIs. One of those homers, a two-run blast in the seventh was the difference-maker on Wednesday. But finding consistency at the plate has been an elusive feat for Duran all season, and he’ll need to string together more than a few good games to start making progress at turning his season around. In 44 games, he’s still hitting only .195 with a .628 OPS, up from the .178 average and .529 OPS he had prior to the road trip. When Duran is hitting well, he can be a catalyst for the lineup. It’s part of the reason interim manager Chad Tracy has left him in the leadoff spot where he’s hit in all but one game that Tracy has managed. The other being that there aren’t other options, particularly with Roman Anthony on the injured list. The pressure Duran can put on an opposing defense remains real. He leads the team with 10 stolen bases and is the only player in the majors with at least 10 steals who hasn’t been caught.Caleb Durbin sits three of last four gamesDurbin’s struggles have been well-documented, but this week Tracy decided to give him a breather, sitting the third baseman in three of the last four games. On Sunday and Monday, Durbin sat back-to-back games for the first time this season. He returned to the lineup in Tuesday’s 7-1 win with an RBI single. But on Wednesday, he found himself back on the bench.Infielder Nick Sogard, called up Saturday when shortstop Trevor Story landed on the injured list, has been the beneficiary of Durbin’s reduced playing time. He’s been in the starting lineup every game since Sunday, with three games at third and one at second, going 4-for-14 with a double.
