Media regulator Ofcom said Google’s YouTube and TikTok had failed to take further action to protect children in the UK, after the regulator in March asked social media platforms to do more to shield young people from harmful content.
The regulator said it found that personalised feeds on the two platforms were the leading way that children were exposed to harmful content, but that YouTube and TikTok believed their existing measures were good enough.
The two platforms had not “committed to any significant changes in response to our specific demands”, arguing their feeds were “already safe for children”, Ofcom said.
