Broadcaster Mel Homer has shared a positive update in her cancer journey, one she described as a “major step forward.”

Earlier in May Homer announced she was cancer free, and on Thursday she said on social media her power Hickman line was removed.

“After 10 months of being (literally) close to my heart, feeding me chemo, blood transfusions, antibiotics, painkillers..my power Hickman line is OUT,” she wrote.

“A major step forward - it’s been with me since July last year, and of course in true dramatic me fashion, it got stuck, the tissue had grown around it and a vascular surgeon came down to assist in its removal.”

“But she’s out! It’s also where blood tests were taken from, so now I go and get a normal needle in the arm blood test weekly in the community. Hooray!”
